Foreign Coins Make Great Fundraisers

Foreign coins can be a fun, hassle-free fundraiser for your organization with nothing to buy, nothing to sell.

Foreign coins can make money for your groupIf the members of your group are frequent travelers to Europe or Britain, or if you serve a community of regular travelers, consider asking your supporters to donate their unwanted Euro and British coins to support your programs. You might be surprised how many of your friends, neighbors and relatives have 5, 20 or 100 dollars worth of unwanted foreign coins sitting in a drawer at home.

Here is an example of how we helped one organization with a successful fundraising project:

Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA) is the nation’s leading industry-based, not-for-profit AIDS fundraising and grant making organization. At many events in New York, BC/EFA sets out a fishbowl and asks theater-goers to deposit their foreign coins as a financially painless contribution. We recently assisted assisted BC/EFA in converting a substantial number of Euros and British Pounds into dollars to support their valuable mission.

Foreign coin fund-raisers are perfect school projects, as classes can compete to collect the most Euro and British coins (paper money, too). Separate competitions for the greatest total amount collected, number of countries represented, absolute number of coins, etc. are great ways to generate additional enthusiasm and contributions. Since Great Britain and each Euro-issuing country produces its own variety of regular and commemorative coins, there are ample opportunities for lessons in topics such as geography, history, economics, art, math and science.

Canada issues more varieties of commemorative quarters than perhaps any country on the planet. The opportunities for lesson planning and competition themes are endless.

You would be amazed to learn how many people have old European currency sitting in a jewelry box, forgotten souvenirs from summer vacations in the days before the Euro. That currency is difficult to exchange for dollars, but it could mean easy money for your group. All you need to do is ask!

We can provide you with suggestions on shipping them to our processing center securely and inexpensively (the U.S. Postal Service offers flat rate options which allow you to mail surprisingly heavy boxes for amazingly low rates). For larger fundraisers, we will even pay your postage expense.

If your group is looking for a simple, inexpensive way to raise $100, $1,000 or more, visit our Fundraising FAQ’s page or contact Euro Coin Exchange to learn more.
