Austrian Schilling Banknotes
Euro Coin Exchange will exchange most Austrian schillings paper money for dollars. Specifically, we buy all banknotes issued by the Austrian National Bank since 1983. We do not buy pre-euro Austrian coins.
Schilling (pre-euro) banknotes which we will buy indefinitely:
ATS 20 – Moritz M. Daffinger
ATS 50 – Sigmund Freud
ATS 100 – Eugen Böhm v. Bawerk
ATS 500 – Rosa Mayreder
ATS 1.000 – Karl Landsteiner
ATS 5.000 – Wolfgang A. Mozart
Schilling banknotes with limited exchange period. We will buy these notes through January 31, 2018:
Schilling banknotes that were legal tender at the time of the euro changeover have an indefinite exchange period. Earlier schilling series can be exchanged at the Oesterreichische Nationalbank within a limited exchange period ending 20 years after they lost legal tender status. Those series include the following two banknotes:
Schilling banknotes that can no longer be exchanged into euro (called-in banknotes). We will not buy these notes:
The exchange period of 20 years for all Schilling banknotes issued before 1983 has expired. This means that these banknotes can no longer be exchanged into euro at the Oesterreichische Nationalbank.
Below you can see the images of some of the banknotes that can no longer be exchanged into euro. Please note that this is a representative list that does not include all the banknotes issued by the Oesterreichische Nationalbank or its predecessors since 1816.
